Apparently, crickets can chirp continuously for an infinite amount of time. It just so happens we have one of these lovely creatures living right outside our house, which can be heard from the first or second floor.
Oh, I feel for you! When I was doing my college summer internship at Penn State, I lived in one of the campus dorms. There was a tree right outside the window and there was a locust that lived in that tree and chirped ALL night with another one living in a tree across the road. It just about drove me insane. I had to get earplugs to muffle it some so that I could get some sleep.
