You can't have a leaky basement in an RV! LOL<br/><br/>On a more positive note, yesterday was our 14th anniversary. We went out to dinner at one of my favorite restaurants, Carraba's. I had some yummy ravioli, Rob got canelloni and we shared a bottle of wine. Mmmmm! Afterward we tried to go to the bookstore, but it was storming and the tornado sirens were going off. Apparently a funnel cloud had been spotted in the south end of Toledo (S. Byrne and Hill, for those of you who know Toledo). When we got to the bookstore (in Monclova), they were closed due to the storm. I've never heard of this! They offered to let us come in and stay in their break room, but we decided to just get back in the car and go get the kids, who were staying at Rob's brother's house nearby. Sigh. At least it will be a memorable day!<br/><br/>Tomorrow we are planning to go to our neighborhood's little July 4th celebration. It's so cute...great for kids. There is a bike parade, a clown, jazz band, face painting, games, snacks and the fire fighters bring the truck so the kids can sit in the driver's seat. We actually went out a PURCHASED A <a href='http://www.atkinsrv.com/moredetails.html?20700550809&amp;sitecode=atkinsrv&amp;icc_ind=RV'>BIG HONKIN' RV</a>!! It has been quite a process since Thursday...<br/><br/>By Wednesday we had our choices narrowed down to two, both available at a small dealership in Flint, Michigan, about 2 hours north of us. They were both really well priced and looked like they were in great condition, so we decided we'd go up on Friday and probably buy one of the two. Thursday night I was so nervous/excited that I didn't sleep at all, except for about 30 minutes around 6:30am, which let me in a daze and almost hallucinating. We took the kids over to my folks' house and headed north. All the way up I was so excited I could hardly stand it.<br/><br/>We looked at the older, less expensive model first. Right away we knew it wasn't for us...more wear than we expected and just generally not a good feeling. Then we looked at the newer, more expensive model. Of course that was the one we loved! We took it for a test drive and the whole time I felt like I was going to spew. The enormity of the purchase was starting to sink in and I was freaking out. I had run all the numbers but since we are so conservative with our money, I wasn't sure. We had to go to the bank to get the bulk of the cash for it, so I figured we could talk it over on the way. Our GPS unit, Gustav (yes everything has a name), led us to the address but alas, no bank. After asking at a gas station, we tried a second location but nope, no bank (it no longer existed). I was really freaking out now! I thought God was trying to tell us something here. Finally, on the third try we found our bank, went over the numbers again and realized that our payments were actually going to be less than I had figured. Hallelujah! All systems go!!<br/><br/>We headed back to the dealer, laid down the dough, got the grand tour of all the onboard systems, including the pooper (which is my biggest concern on the whole thing!), and away we went. We had actually rented a car to drive up there so we could ride back in the big rig together, and I'm so glad we did...worth every penny. <br/><br/>The thing is definitely a behemoth...31 feet long and 17,000 pounds. We managed to squeeze it in our driveway and behind our fence. I'm actually writing this from inside the party bus...we are camping out in our backyard tonight. The girls were so excited about it that we just had to try it out. It's so cool - we can put into our home electric and water, so we can run our TV, laptops, fans, etc. I know what you are thinking...that's not camping! And you're right, it's not. How I used to look forward to it as a kid. I remember waking up in the morning (early of course, since we weren't allowed to sleep in!) and thinking that my neighborhood had a different look to it. I don't know if it was the colors, or the height of the sun in the summer sky, but everything had that "summer look" to it.<br/><br/>My neighborhood where I live now has that summer look too, but now as a mom, somehow summer is a bit more challenging. We are in our second week of no school, and I'm still not used to the lack of routine. I'm a person who needs to get up and go somewhere every morning in order to function properly. On the days we don't have this, I often give in the to urge to sleep late while my kids are in bed with me watching cartoons. The rest of the morning is spent trying to catch up and eat breakfast before noon! LOL<br/><br/>Summer does have its fun points though. My girls are enjoying doing several pages in their kindergarten workbooks every morning. They are loving playing outside in the backyard, digging for worms, getting into mischief with the hose and picking strawberries from our little garden. They also love to watch the various creatures that thrive in our yard...Mrs. Squirrel, Chippy the chipmunk and Queen Bumble, the bee. Heidi has developed a fear of bee hives (since we have found several small ones started in our yard) and was recently worried that one was in her bed, under her covers. <br/><br/>Even though it seems like summer will be long, I know in reality it won't be. July 4th will be here in just a couple of weeks! They will be going to Safety City for 2 weeks, and between a couple more trips to Cedar Point and a jaunt to Chicago to visit friends in July,it will go quickly. Then all too soon my babies will be turning six and starting kindergarten. We had a great day yesterday. After church (where we got to sit together as a family...doesn't happen very often, between me singing on the praise team and Rob running the power point for the service) we had lunch at one of our favorite local eateries, Dave's. Then we took a trip up to Cabela's, which is about 30 minutes north of us. I figured it would be a great thing to do for Father's Day. Funny, about 5000 other people had the same idea! LOL It was great though. The girls were really into all the "killed animals" this time and loved the aquarium too. We had hoped to look at campers (yeah, we're nuts...actually considering buying one) but they don't carry them any more. Oh well. Rob grabbed a few bottles of locally made wine from St. Julian's Winery and then a yummy coffee drink from The Coffee Beanery...mmmm! We stopped at All American Coach but they were closed...bummer! It is rather amusing to climb up on the bumpers of these giant vehicles and try to peak in the windows. Here is the kind we are considering:<br /><br /><br /><span style="font-weight: bold;">Best &amp; Worst Project</span><br /><br />I'm a big fan of Ali Edwards and her focus on pictures + words. My mom gave me the idea to ask the girls about the best and worst parts of theirs days when I was putting them to bed each night. I loved the idea and decided to keep a mini-book/journal for them. I'm doing one for me too. I think it's easier to journal when you have a prompt. Then they will official be "big school" kids! It has gone fast in some ways, and slow in other ways. A quote that describes this perfectly is "the days are long but the years are short". I don't how this works, but it's so true. They have their little preschool end of the year program Wednesday night, and I can't wait to see what they will be doing.<br/><br/>This morning was a bit hectic. Gretchen was complaining of her stomach feeling yucky before we got up, and I didn't think much of it since this is a common complaint (along with many other things). So we get all ready and we're on our way to school when she throws up in the car! AACK! Yeah, sign me up for the parent of the year award. So I get Heidi to school, call off work, and take Gretchen back home. She seems to be fine now after resting for the morning. My girls are not the type to throw up often (like from excitement) so this was odd. Hopefully it was an isolated incident.<br/><br/>I have several layouts and project I want to post but my ScribeFire is not cooperating with me and doesn't know how to post images today. Add this to my list of things to figure out!<br/><br/>Today's to-do list:<br/>1. Laundry, laundry, laundry<br/>2. Make hair appt.<br/>3. Make appts. with "special friend" and happy pill doc.<br/>4. Woohoo! Before I had the girls, I worked in a real estate office for a Realtor for 6 years, managing his marketing, Internet/web site, some client contact, etc. It was a great job and I loved it, even though I got a bit burnt out towards the end. We have kept in touch over the years and last week he called me out of the blue, asking if I'd be interested in coming in to help out part time. I said YES I WOULD!! LOL Right now I'm just working one morning a week to get re-acquainted with everything, and as market gets busier I'll be adding more hours.<br /><br />It's fascinating to realize all the little things I used to take for granted working there. Like...I have a REAL chair that is comfortable, one that you can adjust up and down and that swivels. There is fresh coffee available all day long. The bathroom is clean and bright, and has several lotions and "girlie" things available...and I don't have to clean it! I have my own phone extension and my own computer. I have really arrived!<br /><br />One challenge is that I've realized I have a totally crappy looking wardrobe right now. So tonight, during my "night out" I went shopping and found 3 pairs of pants and 2 blouses to wear to work. I believe that is a record for me. I HATE buying pants, since I need petite length (not width, that is for sure!). K-Mart was my friend tonight. I wanted to get new shoes too, but the price wasn't listed and I was too lazy to ask. ha ha<br /><br />They just called and could use me tomorrow too, so I think I'm going to see if I can work that out. The story is that the top part of the mtn. is a public park, but at the very top where the cross is...that part is private land, so the cross can never be removed. Love that. I visited my knitting store and got some advice.<br /><br />~ Worked at church on Wednesday. Sang at two Lenten services and went to Knit Night to meet some other knitters. Finished my hat but it didn't fit! Had to rip it all out and start again.<br /><br /><br />~ Played Power Panther on Thursday - very fun! Rob brought me flowers, a card and a new iPod for Valentine's Day. I couldn't give him his "gift" because I can't print right now at home. Sigh.<br /><br />~ Friday was a long day. Rob had to work at the basketball tournament. During the day, Gretchen colored her headboard with crayons, painted herself and her porcelain with a body stamp thingie, and both of them snuck Valentine candy.<br /><br />~ While playing in their bedroom, the girls managed to unlock and open a window, through dolls clothes out onto the roof and planned to climb out to get them. Luckily, Heidi told me before they ventured out. They spent the rest of the day in their room, after I removed all toys and stuffed animals. I stayed in my room so they couldn't pull anymore stunts. We canceled the babysitter and subsequent date night we had planned. That stunk.<br /><br />~ Today we stayed home from church, as I have a cold and feel yucky and Gretchen kept telling me she was going to through up. They were good all afternoon, so we went roller skating tonight. Heidi seemed to have fun, but Gretchen reached her limit after an hour and started to melt down. One of the boys from their class (a wild, out of control little thing who is never supervised by his parents) decided to kiss Heidi on the cheek. She was really embarrassed. I've been digiscrapping for about 3 years now and still love it, but sometimes I get in a rut and get a little bored with it. I've been wanting to learn how to knit for so long, and I finally went and bought some yarn and needles and figured I'd give it a try. This is where I was reminded of the real value of face to face, personal interaction, rather than just the Internet.<br /><br />I went to You Tube to find some videos on the basic procedures for slips knots, casting, knit stitch and purl stitches. I found some really good ones, and they were really helpful. So I decided to go for and and began making something that kind of resembled a scarf. It wasn't really supposed to be anything specific, but more so just to practice the stitches. It came out pretty garbled looking and really pretty ugly! LOL<br /><br />Yesterday I went to the little knitting shop which is literally right around the corner from my house, hoping to find some guidance. Mom had the kids for the day, and I wanted to take a little time for myself...yay! The shop is so warm, cozy and inviting. There is nothing like being able to touch and see all the yarns, and talk to the owner who is so knowledgeable about all things yarn. A lady, who reminded me a lot of my Grandma, took me around the store and answered all my questions. I wanted to make a hat (which I'm realizing now is more of an intermediate project...oh well), and she set me up with a pattern the yarn and the needles I would need. I sat down with her and she supervised me casting on and knitting a couple of rows. Tonight is my "night out" so I'm here soaking up a bit of time in the cafe while perusing various art and project books. I just have to share a project from one of the books I'm reading:<br /><br />How to make a book cover<br />1. Measure the length and height of the book when fully open, then cut a sheet of <span class="blsp-spelling-error" id="SPELLING_ERROR_0">kraft</span> paper 3" larger than the length and height of the book.<br /><br />2. Fold down top and bottom edges until the height equals the height of the book.<br /><br />3. Fold ends around book and turn left and right flaps into the inside of the front and back covers. Finish with a binder clip.<br /><br />Now, I don't condone <span class="blsp-spelling-corrected" id="SPELLING_ERROR_1">plagiarism</span>. If I thought this was an original idea, I would never have given you the instructions like this. But HELLO??? Covering books like brown paper? I did that 25 years ago in junior high school! Only we were cheap and we used paper grocery bags...you know, the ones they used to give you before they decided they were killing too many trees? This just cracks me up, that this project is in a book published by a very popular <span class="blsp-spelling-error" id="SPELLING_ERROR_2">scrapbooking</span> company. But I will say...thanks for the inspiration. I plan to go home and cover a few books later, just for fun. The best part of having book covers in school was being able to draw all over them, and writing funny notes to friends. My best buddy Mel still has most of those book covers with all of our crazy rantings on them. <span class="blsp-spelling-error" id="SPELLING_ERROR_3">WTG</span> <span class="blsp-spelling-error" id="SPELLING_ERROR_4">Moosie</span>!<br /><br />In other news, I bought myself a happy lamp today. Yes, they really do exist. My "special friend" (aka counselor) mentioned a store that sells them here in town, and right after my <span class="blsp-spelling-error" id="SPELLING_ERROR_5">appt</span>. this am I darted over to pick one up. The jury is still out on whether the thing actually works, since I've only used it for one day. I will say that I found it to be extremely bright and on a gloomy day I imagine it's quite useful. Today wasn't a good test day for it because it was actually SUNNY here ALL DAY!! <span class="blsp-spelling-error" id="SPELLING_ERROR_6">LOL</span><br /><br />I got to visit my friend Heather again tonight. She will have a c-section on Friday to deliver her little girl, who will be 34 weeks along at that point. I pray that both she and the baby, who will be very small, will fare well. I have a strange thing going on in my HD right now. I have a 142MB HD, and I can only account for 66MB of stuff on there! I downloaded one of those freeware programs that show you the sizes of all of your files, and that is what it's telling me. It's odd. I am a fan of the University of Michigan, and in these parts you CANNOT be a fan of both places. The rivalry between the two schools is arguably the best in all of college sports. Due to our position almost halfway in between the two schools, the hype before the game where they play each other every year is insane. They even have a store called the Buckeye &amp; Wolverine shop, there they sell only OSU or Michigan stuff, and it's organized so that each team's colors are on separate sides of the store, with a line down the middle.<br /><br />But last night it was the Buckeyes' time to shine. I donned an Ohio State t-shirt, belonging to Rob, showing my support of our home state's team. I may not be an OSU fan, but I'm still a Big 10 fan. We were supposed to have a "party" here but as it turns out, only my brother and sister-in-law showed up. Nice. That's okay, I enjoyed the food Rob made and was able to relax and watch the game.<br /><br />Ohio State just couldn't pull it out. I was disappointed for them. But here's what I don't get: OSU fans are SO obnoxious all year long....we're number one...yada yada yada. Then they get to the big game and blow it. It's the second time they've done this in recent years...last time they lost to Florida. Um hello? Can't execute under pressure? Hmmmm.<br /><br />You didn't know I was such a football expert, did you? LOL<br /><br />Speaking of football, did you see the JERK who did a front sommersault into the endzone last weekend? Uncalled for!! That coach should have BENCHED HIS REAR END!! It gets really old seeing such unsportman-like conduct on the field.<br /><br />Okay. Off my soapbox now.<br /><br />::Cleaning Spree::<br />It doesn't happen often, but when you are having people over there is a great motivation to clean! Here's what I've done in the past two days:<br /><br /><ul><li>Vacuumed main floor</li><li>Mopped kitchen and dining room</li><li>Cleared off counters</li><li>Cleaned both bathrooms</li><li>Put away toys</li><li>Decluttered my bedroom dresser top</li><li>Cleaned master bedroom blinds (man, were they dirty!)</li><li>Laundry</li><li>Decluttered girls' dresser top</li><li>Cleaned out underneath girls' beds</li><li>Made appointment at foot doctor</li><li>Made appointment at OB/GYN</li></ul>Yay! I hope this streak continues. :-)<br /><br />Tonight is my night out, so I'm getting my haircut and my go to the hospital to visit my friend Heather and also my Dad. He had to go back in yesterday to have extra blood/fluid removed from around his heart. :-( He got through it fine but it has me worried that this is going to be an ongoing problem for him. My plans for today have changed about 12 times already, and the day is only half over. So let's see...<br /><br />Mom was supposed to pick up the girls from school and keep them for the afternoon. I had a whole list of stuff I wanted to get done. Great! Mom calls at 8:45am saying she and Dad are headed into the cardiologist...Dad is still having symptoms of irregular heartbeat and shortness of breath. Turns out he still has fluid around his heart and they decide to admit him to the hospital for some procedure where they remove the fluid. Yikes! Okay, plan B, no problem.<br /><br />Kids come home, we have lunch, color, read stories, etc. Rob has the afternoon off so he can help get ready for our little college football championship party tonight. Great! Then my MIL calls at 1:30pm, saying they have some friends coming to visit at 2:00 and they'd like to see the girls. Now this is where I get cranky. I'm supposed to drop what I'm doing and just go over there, so she can parade them around like little dolls to show off to her friends? Hmmmm, don't think so. She's supposed to call when it's time to go over, but guess what? ROB will be taking them. The girls went to school, I had an appointment in the morning and had a chance to spend 20 minutes by myself at Panera before picking them up. It was wonderful!<br /><br />This afternoon I had a chance to do a few chores, assisted by the girls, and catch up with two friends. One of them, Heather, is in the hospital on bedrest. She is 32 weeks pregnant and her water broke Wednesday. So far she has managed to keep from going into labor, thanks to anti-contraction drugs. I'm trying to figure out what I can do for her. She has to be bored out of her mind! And, she already has two kids. I sure hope she can hold out for a few more weeks so the baby can grow.<br /><br />This weekend will be quiet. Rob has to work tomorrow, so it will be another long day. I hope to take the girls out to do something entertaining.<br /><br />I've been taking my daily photos and have them set up in my <a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/22464064@N04/">Flickr</a>. I'm not sure if I will do anything with these aside from posting them there, but I have them nonetheless.<br /><br />I need to figure out what we are doing for dinner. It is officially Jan. 1, 2008 here in Ohio. We ended up spending a quiet night at home. Rob stayed here (after I not-so-subtly suggested he do so) and we played some online Hearts, watched football and drank some sparking wine at midnight.<br /><br />So far today things are going okay. One thing I'm trying to do now in the new year is to get up at a reasonable hour. Most of the time it's really hard for me to get up if I don't have to, so today we were all up and going by 9am. I'm going to gradually make it earlier, so it won't be so shocking. Heidi is having some gastrointestinal issues...the poor thing can't catch a break. And Gretchen has a slight fever now so this means we've all caught the illness during Christmas break. Good thing we don't have to go anywhere today!<br /><br />We enjoyed the Rose Parade this morning and will be watching football the rest of the day... as much as we can get away with, anyhow. But I am completely content to be here with Rob and the girls. I'm not really up to going out anyway. I caught Rob's nasty sinus infection/cold/general yuck, and Heidi has it too. Rob's started on Christmas night and Heidi and I started on the 29th. We had planned to have Rob's family and my good friend Melissa, aka George (long story) over, but canceled due to all the sickies. :-(<br /><br />This is always a good day each year to think about goals for the next year and review what has happened the past year. I love the feeling of having a fresh start. So with that in mind, I've chosen the word "resilience" as my one little word for the year. If you aren't familiar with this concept, check out Ali Edwards' blog.<br /><br />I chose <span style="font-weight: bold;">resilience</span> because someone recently told me that even though I have had lots of ups and downs in the past, I always seem to bounce back and get through. I never thought about myself that way before, and I think it's a really positive way to see things. So every morning, I will have the chance to be resilient, to start over and make each day better than the one before it. There is a song by <a href="http://www.stevencurtischapman.com/">Steven Curtis Chapman</a> called "Next 5 Minutes" that captures this principle beautifully:<br /><br /><span style="font-style: italic;">I'm livin' the next five minutes, </span><br /><span style="font-style: italic;">like these are my last five minutes,</span><br /><span style="font-style: italic;">'cause I know the next minutes may be all I have</span><br /><span style="font-style: italic;">And if the next five minutes,</span><br /><span style="font-style: italic;">turn into the last five minutes,</span><br /><span style="font-style: italic;">I'm taking the next five minutes and starting all over again<br /><br /><br /></span><span style="font-weight: bold;">::2008 Goals::</span><br />I am not so good at resolutions, so this year I am making some very general goals, stuff I can do every day that will make things a little better.<br /><br /><span style="font-weight: bold;">Pray often ~ Worship weekly ~ Study God's Word ~ Exercise daily ~ Eat a healthy diet ~ Create ~ Play ~ Listen ~ Learn ~ Connect ~ Reflect ~ Simplify</span><br /><br />"They" will tell you that you shouldn't set general goals like this, that you should break them down and make them "measurable". And I will. But I need a list of things that I can accomplish, and not feel like a failure all the time. I figure if I can do at least ONE of these things every day, then I've met my goals. I think that sounds fair.<br /><br />To hold myself a bit more accountable, I'll expand a bit on each goal:<br /><br />Pray often: Pray when I'm happy, pray when I'm sad, pray when I'm thankful, pray when I'm frustrated...just talk to God all the time, like He's right there ('cause He is!)<br /><br />Worship weekly: Make every effort to get to church every week. It's good for the kids, and it's good for me. God gave us the gift of worship and fellowship to strengthen our spirits.<br /><br />Study God's word: Dust off the Bible and actually READ it.<br /><br />Exercise daily: Move every day. Even if it's a walk around the block. It's better than nothing.<br /><br />Eat a healthy diet: No more diets. Just balanced, healthy eating. Fruits and veggies, whole grains, the whole bit. Cooking at home more. Smaller portions. That's it.<br /><br />Create: Digiscrap, paint, do hybrid project...doesn't matter. Just find something to create.<br /><br />Play: Play with the girls. Play outside. Play my flute. Sing. Just play.<br /><br />Listen: Listen more than I talk. 'Nough said.<br /><br />Learn: Be open to learning new things.<br /><br />Connect: Keep in touch with friends. Don't take Rob for granted.<br /><br />Reflect: Think about each day and figure out what I can do better the next day.<br /><br />Simplify: Get rid of clutter. Don't buy stuff I don't need. Recycle. Give stuff away.<br /><br />So tomorrow is a fresh start. God is so good, giving us calendars so we can mark beginnings and endings. I plan to make a Shutterfly book...it will be my first one. :-)<br /><br /><span style="font-weight: bold;">::Dad's Surgery::</span><br />My Dad had open heart surgery on December 14th and came through it with flying colors. They had to replace a heart valve, and the surgeon said it was the worst one he's ever seen. He was in the hospital for 4 days, and to look at him now, you'd never guess he ever had a problem. Modern medicine and God's healing power are truly amazing! Now, we just have to keep him from doing too much. His next big project is going to be remodeling our bathroom!<br /><br /><span style="font-weight: bold;">::Christmas::</span><br />We made it through! Unfortunately this year seemed a lot more stressful as far as all the planning goes. I think between our trip, and Dad's surgery, I had less time to get everything ready. Plus there were many changes in the plans for Christmas Day and I just don't deal well with changes like that. It's something I have to work on...being a bit more flexible.<br /><br />My brother came into town on Saturday, 12/22 and we had our big turkey dinner on Sunday (at his request) at my parent's house. Then we spent Christmas Eve at their house too, opening presents in the early afternoon and having our traditional "snack dinner" afterward. That is a tradition we used to have at my grandparent's house when I was a kid, and Mom agreed to keep it going after they were gone. It's not surprising, since they have the power of two! LOL<br /><br />This morning I got so much done while the girls were in school...just a bunch of errands before we leave on our big trip on Sunday. I always feel so good when I have mornings like this. I feel so productive.<br /><br />When we got home, I was making lunch and I noticed it was too quiet (always a scary thing!). Heidi was nearby but Gretchen was nowhere to be found, so I started calling for her. No response. I started searching the house, with Heidi by my side being the mini mommy, and we couldn't find her. I finally found her in the basement, hiding underneath the desk, behind a chair, with a box of cereal, munching away. She got a time out, not for eating cereal, but for hiding from me and sneaking around. Sigh. Age appropriate behavior, I guess...<br /><br />So after lunch I was chatting with a friend on the phone, and once again it was quiet. This time both girls were missing. Heidi came downstairs asking for a cookie, but she had this strange little smile on her face, like she was up to something. I hung up a couple of minutes later and went to investigate. They had swiped a little pack of lemonade mix from the kitchen counter, took it upstairs and made themselves some lemonade in their little tea set in the play room. Most of the lemonade was spilled all over the carpeting. Arrgh!! I made them clean it up with towels and "sentenced" them to quiet time in their bedroom. It doesn't sound too quite right now. I'm not quite sure what to do with them...maybe make them scrub my kitchen floor? LOL Then I'll hear about how I'm the evil stepmother and they are Cinderella!<br /><br />I think we have everything ready to go for the trip. I still have a lot of laundry to do, but that is always the case! ha ha I'm just hoping we have good weather Sunday morning when we get out of here. Last I heard it might be sleeting/snowing, and that is never good for flying.<br /><br />Well, gotta get back to my preparations. First of all, I totally flaked on my dear friend Moosie (aka George) on going to a concert she was playing in this afternoon. I wish I could explain why I do things like this, but I really can't. It just didn't work out that way I had hoped. This will be on my list of things to discuss with my shrink on Wednesday (yup, I have one of those now...it's fabulous!!). Sadly, I also flaked on attending a baby shower this afternoon too. So I couldn't have gone to the concert anyway. Duh!!! I get so focused on certain things that I just mess up everything else.<br /><br />I'm starting over tomorrow. Sigh.<br /><br /><span style="font-weight: bold;">:: This Week ::</span><br />It's just 6 days and counting until our big trip. We are taking a Disney cruise with the kids and my parents. Well, I should say they are taking us. It's their 40th anniversary this year and this is how they want to celebrate. You can't knock that!! The girls are really excited and have been counting down the days. I have my to-do list going and I'm trying not to panick...<br /><br />I'm having a bought of insomnia the past couple of nights. But we managed to not only do gymnastics, but I took the girls to go vote with me, and then we made a trip to the library to get some Thanksgiving books.<br /><br />I've been thinking about Thanksgiving a lot this past week, as I put away my Halloween decorations and try to think ahead. It's so easy to grumble about daily annoyances, like...<br /><br />This leaky kitchen faucet is driving me nuts!<br /><br />I hate doing laundry!<br /><br />Ugh, I have to clean out the fridge...again!<br /><br />Years ago I got an email that I have never forgotten. Every time you find yourself grumbling, find a way to turn it into something to be grateful for. So...<br /><br />This leaky kitchen faucet is driving me nuts!<br /><span style="font-style: italic;">Thank you Lord, for providing enough water to make my faucet leak. Please be with those in Georgia, Florida, and other parts of the world who are struggling to find fresh water.<br /><br /></span>I hate doing laundry!<br /><span style="font-style: italic;">Thank you Lord, for giving me so many clothes that keep me warm, and thank you for the family who wears these clothes. Remember that commercial for dog food? For some reason that came to mind for a title today...lots of random, unrelated stuff.<br /><br />Let's see...lots of stuff going on. Over the weekend the girls had their first official choir performance at church. I was so proud of them! The both got to stand in the front row and they knew all the words and motions. Yay! Sunday afternoon we tried to pick apples, but they U-pick was already done for the year (duh!). We enjoyed the beautiful fall day anyway. The girls rode ponies, played in the huge straw pile, listened to some music and we bought some cider. Not a total waste. Sunday evening my friend and I visited another friend at the funeral home who lost her dad. It's so sad to think that our parents aren't invincible and won't live forever. After that we got some amazing Indian food. It was my first time eating Indian and I hope it won't be the last!<br /><br />This week so far we've been to the park, gymnastics, on a "leaf walk" around the neighborhood and I managed to successfully send pumpkin muffins for snack today. Of course I forgot it was brown day today, so the girls wore black and pink instead. Sigh. It was the first color day I've missed in two year of preschool, so I guess it's not so bad! LOL<br /><br />Tomorrow night we are going to my grandma's place for their annual Halloween party. They love it because they can go door to door inside, so they don't need coats. Grandma lives in an independent retirement place that looks like a luxury hotel (at least to me!). Here is the conversation that followed.<br /><br />Her: Are you Heidi and Gretchen's mom?<br />Me: Yes, that's me!<br />Her: Does someone else pick them up sometimes?<br />Me: Oh, you must have seen my mom last week. We were out of town and the girls were staying with she and my dad.<br />Her: Oh! Okay. I wasn't sure if you were the mom or she was the mom. She looks so young!<br />Me: Yup, that's my mom! She looks great, doesn't she?<br />Her: Yes! I can't believe she's the grandma! Oh, but I mean, you look young too, of course...<br /><br />Well, you get the idea. She went on to invite us to join her family at McDonald's some day after school for lunch. Now, my mom DOES look great. She is 62 years old and people are always saying how young she looks. She's always taken good care of herself and always has her hair done, makeup on, decent looking outfit, jewelry, the whole nine yards. And then there is me, who shows up at school with no makeup, in jeans, a t-shirt and crocs, and my hair may or may not be combed. Sigh. At least one of us looks good!<br /><br />So here, you be the judge. Now I don’t mean physically, because it’s easy to veg in front of the TV. I’m talking about true relaxation, where you can turn off your mind and just “be”. The afternoon I spent at the Yacht and Beach Club Resort pool was as close to true relaxation as I’ve come in a long time. The atmosphere was gorgeous, the water temperature perfect and I found a spot with just the right combination of sun and shade. They were so spent by Sunday afternoon, and Heidi had a slight fever and some stomach issues. I have to remember how much they love being home and having their little routine. They were delighted to sleep in their own beds again, or I should say Heidi's bed.<br /><br /><br />That brings me to our latest parenting dilemma. The girls have been insisting on sleeping together in Heidi's bed (a full size bed) for the past several weeks now. I don't really care, and I think it's really sweet that they have a special bond and like being together. However, there was a reason we separated them in the first place. They also need time apart, and space to be alone if they want to. I hesitate to have them share a room, but they are asking for bunk beds for Christmas and want to turn one of the rooms into a play room. Yup, that's why I haven't blogged in a while...at least, that's my story. ;-) Last week I got a new vacuum. We went hog wild and bought a Dyson All Floors sweeper. Let me tell you - the hype about this product isn't just hype. It is truly a Cadillac of vacuums! It is pure joy to use. I have vacuumed more in the past week than I did in the whole month before that! So, with all that vacuuming time, who has time to blog? lol<br /><br />I do have a couple of announcements to make concerning my role in digiland. I decided to leave MDM before the November 1 closing, as I've been invited to sell at another store. I can't say where quite yet...that will be October 1. After I dropped the girls off at school this morning, I stopped for gas. I prepaid and went to lift up the nozzle, and the only price showing up was on the diesel area. I tried this several times, pushing the button for "regular" gas, but the price kept showing up on the diesel. I sure as heck didn't want to end up with diesel in the van, so I go in and ask the lady. She comes out with me and points out that I was using the WRONG NOZZLE. On each pump there is a nozzle for the regular gas, and one for the diesel. Um....DUH!!! I just laughed and laughed. Other customers were looking at me, laughing at myself. Wow, my common sense had left the building! I blamed it on not enough coffee.<br /><br />Other than that, it was a good day. Got a couple things accomplished this morning, girls stayed for lunch so I had some extra time, and then this afternoon we got all the fall/Halloween decorations out. They get so excited when we do that. And it's fun for me too, to take all the stuff out of the boxes and remember. For some reason, I am very organized when it comes to decorations. Everything is properly labeled it its plastic tub in the attic. Sigh. It's something I deal with on a regular basis. Awesome!<br /><br />Speaking of mornings, in my quest to gather fresh, unique inspiration, I came across <a href="http://3191.visualblogging.com/index.html">this blog</a> yesterday. You don't have to be a scrapper to appreciate it. It's just two ladies comparing their photos taken each morning. The composition and subject matter are quite appealing...just little snippets of daily life, portrayed in an artistic way.<br /><br />I made this right after getting our passport photos taken last week. I tell you, there is always an issue doing something like this (see the journaling). Don't get excited...we aren't going on a European tour or anything. They use some kind of face recognition software, and if you smile it messes up the process. I just laid out the photos on a piece of construction paper and scanned it. Tomorrow is the annual <a href="http://www.blackswamparts.org/">Black Swamp Festival in Bowling Green</a>, so we might give that a try, depending on the weather.<br /><br />The NFL Football season started last night, as did the fantasy league Rob convinced me to join. It's his league, just for fun, and this year I have another girl in the league with me - yay Steph!! I did okay last night but Sunday will be a different story. I was, well, a bit happy during the draft and totally botched my picks. Oh well. It will make for an interesting season. :-) At least I'm ahead of Winterstein so far this week!<br /><br />Okay, off to do some more laundry before the kids get home. It can't come too quickly. The feeling of the crisp, cool air and blue skies are always welcome in Ohio this time of year.<br /><br />We had an interesting weekend. Some out of town friends, who were passing through our city, called at 5pm Friday evening an invited us to meet them for dinner. They gave us one hour notice! Now, I try to be flexible about things like this, but we already had plans to drop the girls off at my parent's house for the night (woohoo), attend an engagement party and then do Rob's fantasy football draft. I didn't feel as though I could say no to them, so we ended up missing the party. I felt bad. It's never easy to make those decisions. We did have a good time though, and the kids had fun too.<br /><br />Saturday Rob and Dad put some finishing touches on the playground, like a rock climbing wall and a climbing rope. That rope brings back harsh memories of elementary school gym classes. We were supposed to be able to climb that damn thing, all the way up to the ceiling (which was probably at least 20 feet up there!! I never could do it.<br /><br />Sunday we went to the Fulton Co. fair. Now, THIS is a REAL fair! I'll have some photos later on. We got to see the sheep being sheered and the goats getting their baths, along with the dairy cows and even a demonstration of how sprinklers work in the event of a fire. The girls kept asking to go on the rides, but we don't do fair rides so there was a large amount of whining!! LOL They weren't horribly mistreated, though...they got ice cream, and played a game where they each won a new ball.<br /><br /><span style="font-weight: bold;">Challenge Time</span><br />I've decided to take part in the <a href="http://www.kbandfriends.com/forums/showthread.php?p=7271&posted=1#post7271">KB and Friends Slice of Life challenge</a>. Things have gotten so negative and destructive in digi-land lately that I had to take a step back and remember why I started scrapping in the first place. I think this is a good way to re-focus on those reasons. I will admit, that I had been reading the "nasty blog", but today I removed it from my Google Reader. Even if there is useful information there, it's not worth it to me to have to read all the other garbage too. Supposedly people have started receiving nasty emails and even phone calls, and one designer who has a popular blog has decided to password protect it for a while. It's sad that things have come to this. It sucks the joy out of a hobby that is supposed to be fun. I printed the background paper on an 8.5x11 sheet of paper, then printed the elements on a separate sheet and cut them out. I need to add journaling to jazz it up, but it's my creative project for the day. I used <span style="font-weight: bold;">Sherri Tierney's</span> <a href="http://www.oneofakindscrapz.com/store/product.php?productid=17319&cat=0&amp;page=1">Rev It Up, available at OAKS</a>, which I think is so cute. Never thought I'd have a use for it though! LOL Those ribbons look amazingly realistic when you print them out and attach them.<br /><br /><span style="font-weight: bold;">Chatter</span><br />It is sooooooooooooo hot and sticky here. Every time you walk outside, you can almost slice the air. Now it's nothing like St. Louis, but it's still uncomfortable and makes me want to stay inside. So that's what we've been doing today...playing with PlayDoh, coloring and now the girls are playing in the basement, pretending they have an animal house or something. :-)<br /><br />My brother was in town Saturday - Wednesday, and we've been doing a lot of fun stuff with him. Sunday was COSI, Tuesday we went out to dinner and then to the Mud Hens (baseball) game and yesterday we went swimming. The girls love seeing him, as he's the "fun uncle" and loves to spoil them. Tomorrow we have a preschool meeting, and Rob and I are going to try to go out tomorrow night. This weekend is the annual <a href="http://www.gafsociety.org/fest.htm">German American Festival</a>, which we always enjoy. Our good friends/neighbors are German dancers, and we love to see the dances at the festival. Plus, the beer is good too! When the girls were little, they had German dirndel dresses but they have since outgrown them. I'd love to get them another set, since they look so cute.<br /><br />Well, I'm off to try to stay entertained. He entertained the girls for a while, which was a nice break since it has been raining all day here and I can't send them outside to play.<br /><br />I thought he had left to go back to work, but he returned about two minutes to hand me a piece of paper. It had several photos of his car, speeding along a road close to here. One of the city's intersection cameras got lucky and caught me going 62 mph in a 50 mph zone. Drat!! Turns out it was last Tuesday night, while I was on my way to Barnes and Noble to enjoy my night out. I'm so mad at myself! I've gone 19 years without a speeding ticket, until now. Rob, being the kind-hearted man that he is, just couldn't stop laughing at me. At least he's not mad. But $95 for a trip to B &amp; N is a bit pricey, don't you think? Good thing I've had a record month in digi sales this month! LOL<br /><br />We survived the FFO on Saturday. The girls really enjoyed playing with their cousins, who are almost 3 and 16 months old. The day was relaxed and the weather was absolutely perfect. It couldn't have gone better.<br /><br />Yesterday we met Uncle Brian (in from California), Mom and Dad at COSI. I think Brian enjoyed it almost as much as the girls did...it was cute. Afterward, we had leftovers at Mom and Dad's house (another night off from cooking, yay!). Brian gave the girls their belated birthday presents - LeapPad Reading and Writing and a globe. They are going to be complete brainiacs with all these educational toys!<br /><br />Well, right now it's 4:56pm and I've almost run out of ways to entertain the girls inside. We had done the Leap Pads, colored, PlayDoh, computer games, they helped with laundry, and right now they are playing drums and a mini-keyboard. Size doesn't matter. Everyone floats. </span><br /><br />We spent yesterday and today at Castaway Bay in Sandusky and had a great time! On our last water park trip, I felt so self-conscious running around in a swim suit, but for some reason this time it didn't matter. Getting in the water with Rob and the girls was a truly freeing experience this time. It was their first experience with a wave pool and they were just delighted. I can see they have potential to become strong swimmers, with a few more lessons and lots more water time.<br /><br />I will post pictures soon, but for now I'm going to bed. It's been a long two days (albeit fun) and tomorrow we have another FFO (this one will be a Fun Family Outing, rather than a Forced one...). My grandma is turning 91 tomorrow and my brother is flying in from California to celebrate with us. We'll be joined by my aunt and uncle, and one cousin and his family. It should be a really fun day, and the weather is supposed to be great.<br /><br />Before I go, I want to link you up to a really cool blog about art journals. But I had to go this afternoon as we were out of milk, peanut butter, bread...you know, the essentials.<br /><br />LOL! If you know me IRL, you know that cooking isn't really my thing. I mean, I do it, but it's not some huge passion or anything. When I make a new recipe, it's an event. Tonight I made <a href="http://jas.familyfun.go.com/recipefinder/display?id=15487">Spinach and Cheese Ravioli.</a> Sounds impressive, right? Well it's not, really. I used wonton wrappers instead of pasta. Easy to put together, but they don't hold up very well during cooking...pretty flimsy. Anyway, they tasted good and the girls ACTUALLY ATE THEM!! Woohoo!<br /><br />Tomorrow we are going to take off and spend the day at a water park, and spend the night there. It's one of those indoor parks. Should be fun. I guess I can rephrase this by saying that sometimes, you have to do things you don't want to do in order to avoid hurting someone's feelings.<br /><br />I have a friend who is just the sweetest person, but her son is pretty aggressive and when we get together for playdates, something usually happens. By something, I mean he ends up directing his aggression at one of my girls. Last time at the park, it was throwing small stones at them; today, it was pushing one of them down into the sandbox. It's getting to the point where I would rather not get together with her, because I don't think the girls need to deal with that. They will have to deal with him in their class at school this year, so why add to it?<br /><br />Anyway, she is fairly persistent about wanting to get together. I think I will have to be very busy for the next several months.
